Major Arcana · XIV
Temperance Tarot Card Meaning
- balance
- moderation
- patience
- harmony
Temperance upright
Temperance is the slow, patient alchemy of balance. Disparate parts of your life are being blended into something finer. Do not rush the mixing; grace is the by-product of the right proportions.
Temperance reversed
Reversed, Temperance signals excess or impatience — extremes chosen over harmony. The alchemy you seek is slow work. Return to moderation, and the blend will find its right proportion.
How to read Temperance
Temperance is card XIV of the 22 Major Arcana. When a Major Arcana card appears, readers give it extra weight: it points to one of the bigger lessons or turning points of the moment.
Upright, let its keywords guide the reading: balance, moderation, patience, and harmony.
Reversed, the same themes are usually blocked, delayed or turned inward. Read the reversed meaning above with that in mind.
